Common questions about grid-tied solar systems

An on-grid solar system is connected to the main electricity grid. It generates power during the day, which is used to power your home/business. Excess power is exported to the grid, and you import power from the grid when solar generation is insufficient.

Net metering is a billing mechanism that credits solar system owners for the electricity they add to the grid. A bi-directional meter measures both import and export. You only pay for the net electricity consumed from the grid.

Standard on-grid systems shut down during grid failure for safety reasons (anti-islanding protection). However, you can add a battery backup (hybrid system) or use a UPS for critical loads during power cuts.

Approximately 100 sq. ft. per kW of solar system. A 3kW system needs about 300 sq. ft. of shadow-free rooftop space. We assess your roof during the free site survey.

Solar panels have 25+ years lifespan with 90% output after 10 years. Inverters last 10-15 years. Mounting structure lasts 25+ years. Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance.

Minimal maintenance required. Periodic panel cleaning (every 2-3 months), annual inspection, and inverter monitoring. No battery maintenance needed in on-grid systems.

Physical installation takes 2-3 days for residential systems. Net metering approval takes 15-30 days depending on DISCOM. Complete process typically takes 3-4 weeks.

Excess power is automatically exported to the grid through net meter. You earn credits for this exported electricity which are adjusted against your electricity bill.
